ORWIN, Mrs. Betty Annapolis, MD Formerly of KalamazooBetty Orwin, 76, a resident of Kalamazoo for more than 70 years, passed away March 13, 2006, in Annapolis, Maryland where she had been living for the past 5 years. Born Elizabeth Ann Hutton on October 31, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Helen (Dye) Hutton. She attended Western Michigan University, graduating from its secretarial program and worked at Sutherland Paper Company. She married Walter Lawrence "Duke" Orwin on October 16, 1954. They enjoyed more than 36 years of marriage until his death in 1991. She and her husband were members of Temple B'nai Israel and the Kalamazoo Country Club. She was an active volunteer at SCORE and in later years worked as an administrative assistant for the Kalamazoo Public Schools and the American Red Cross. She was also a member of the Service Club of Kalamazoo, which became the Junior League, volunteering at Pretty Lake Vacation Camp, the Child Guidance Clinic and other Service Club charities. She devoted her time to many interests, especially to her family, gardening, golf, bowling and animals. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Angela and Dan Dunlap of Annapolis, Maryland; her son and daughter-in-law Larry and Heide Orwin of Brecksville, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Madeline and Emily Dunlap and Brittany and Troy Orwin. Funeral services will be held 11:00 Saturday morning at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Burial in Mountain Home Cemetery will follow services. Visitation will be held Friday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, Hospice of Greater Kalamazoo or a charity of personal choice.
