    • (Medical):Cecelia was diagnosed as "senile" in 1938 at the age of 69,and was admitted to Friends Hospital in Head, where she remained for the rest of her life (11 years) at the age of 80. Friends is a psychiatric hospital; a further cause of Cecelia's death was "senile psychosis". * * from: The Merck Manual of Medical Information--Second Home Edition

"Symptoms and Signs Apathetic hyperthyroidism: Apathy and inactivity dominate the clinical picture and replace the usual hyperkinesis. Associated cardiac or other organ system findings may occur. Patients look extremely old and wizened but, with treatment, rapidly lose some wrinkling and become more youthful-looking. They have been described as having a "characteristic senile appearance" of mild chronic illness, but when afflicted with an acute illness or stress, they "quietly and peacefully sink into coma and die an absolutely relaxed death without activation."
